Dr. Srsic, a well known and loved pediatrician, died with his family by his side at The Johns Hopkins Hospital on Thursday, June 25, 2009, due to complications from ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease.
Dr. Srsic was born in Pittsburgh, PA, on April 28, 1928. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1948. He then earned a Masters Degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1949. After that he served as an officer in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He then graduated from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD, in 1957. Following this, he began practicing medicine in Anne Arundel County and later in Queen Anne's County. His practice spanned multiple generations of families. Throughout many years, he continued his professional affiliation with The Johns Hopkins Hospital as an Associate Professor of Pediatrics. His other past accomplishments included President of the Maryland Chapter of the American Cancer Society and a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus. Dr. Srsic and his wife, Betty, recently celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary in May.
Dr. Srsic is survived by his spouse, Mary Elizabeth (Betty). He is also survived by his children Karen Shorter and her husband, Dennis, of Moodus, CT; Peter A. Srsic of Queenstown, MD; Beth Conolly and her husband, Peter, of Jeffersonton, VA; and Rebecca Mobley and her husband, Gene, of Stevensville, MD; and grandchildren Rachel and Anna Marie Carlson; Sarah, Caroline and Erin Conolly; and Raymond Anderson. He is also survived by his sister, Martha Berdnik, her husband, Carl, and her family from Pittsburgh, PA, and many other family members.
A visitation will be held from 3 to 5 pm and 7 to 9 pm on Monday, June 29, 2009 at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., 106 Shamrock Road, Chester, MD. A funeral Mass will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, June 30 at St. Christopher’s Catholic Church, 1861 Harbor Drive, Chester, MD . Interment will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery.
